Electric vs DE razors
Hello
For a long time, I used a trimmer on my face and some disposable razors on my neck. I have now been using a DE razor for a while. I like the outcome, and it feels pretty good, but it is pretty time consuming. It takes me about 10 minutes to shave or so.
I've never had an electric razor, and I went to DE largely as a result of suggestions on here and styleforum. How much worse is an electric razor at shaving and how long does it take you to shave? It seems that for a slightly worse shave, I wouldn't mind saving that time every morning, unless I had some special occassion to have a nice shave.
Thoughts?

I've used electrics over the years. YMMV, but my experience with them vs. a blade more than makes up for the amount of time I might have saved. I shave with a straight every morning and it never takes more than 5-7 min. If I'm in a hurry I use a DE in less than 4 min. Not BBS, but passable.

I'm no shaving sensei but what Ive discovered through my shaving adventures is that it comes down to personal preference. I found that electric is better for when your on the go, traveling, late to work or whatever. But for this place and time convenience you sacrifice the quality of the shave. Ten minutes is not bad for a good shave, and will last through the day, unless your a hairy beast. I prefer the latter, makes my skin feel good and stuff. So really it comes down to how you want to operate in the morning, and what works best with you and your situation.

If you grow thick facial hair, skip the electric. They don't even cut my whiskers. I recently switched to a DE and haven't looked back.

Tried Electric, hated them and got bad ingrown hairs.
Tried Plastic/Cartridge with the canned goo, hated them and got ingrown hairs and razor burn.
Tried DE wet shaving, love it and no ingrown hairs, cuts, nicks or razor burn at all.
Simple choice for me.

I used an electric razor (rotary style) for 30 years (until I saw the light). As along as I shaved every day there wasn't really a problem with it except for never getting a particularly close shave (nowhere near a DE). If I let my beard go for just a couple of days though I'd get a lot of pulling, tugging, and an ingrown hair once in a while.

On deployment and in the field, electric razors are the best (read: I am a hairy guy). Nothing will beat an actual razor with good lather to the face, but the more you use a certain electric razor the more accustomed your skin gets to it.. and the shaves get better. Most electrics suck at shaving necks, but mine does pretty well I would think (enough for Army standards..) I can get an electric shave in about 3 minutes or less.

Electric razors always created issues for me -- bumps, zits, in-grown hairs, not to mention it's loud, rushed, and not fulfilling. Personally, I value the time I reserve for my daily DE shave. It's the only time I really have to myself, and it provides both mental and physical benefit. So I would recommend, get up earlier, chill, and enjoy the DE shave time in peace, brother.
