Greetings everyone! This is my first official post although I have been a frequent visitor of the site for many months now.
So I have recently found myself in a new relationship right before the holidays and was wondering if you guys had any input on what type of gift to get a girl that you've only been seeing/dating for about a month.
A little background, we're both 21. We met through mutual friends and have gone on multiple dates over the past couple of weeks. Our relationship right now is a little bit long distance (2 hours drive) so when we do see each other it is usually over the weekend. I want a gift that doesn't come off as too serious seeing as the relationship is still early.

Permalink Reply by Rebekah on December 12, 2012 at 3:32pm frying pan contradicts Shane's own rule not to get people gifts related to their hobbies. You could call cooking one of my hobbies, and I don't want any more frying pans as gifts, having spent the last 3 weeks returning maybe a dozen of them received as wedding gifts.
I was just discussing wonderful and useless kitchen gadgets with some girlfriends (mostly SAHMs), and the opinions were all over the map - except everyone wants a garlic press. But, to Shane's point, I already have 2.
Permalink Reply by Shane on December 12, 2012 at 3:46pm My rule is for buying a gift related to a man's hobby. Generally speaking we're pretty particular about what we want. However, if she's a foodie, I wouldn't attempt it. If it's something she likes to do on a regular basis, and has a beat up aluminum frying pan she got at a yard sale, a set of cookware wouldn't be out of question for consideration for a first Christmas. I wouldn't even contemplate it for a second Christmas, though.
On the other hand, do you really want to give her something she'll use on a daily basis if there's a possibility there isn't going to be a next Christmas together? At least gloves will probably be worn out or lost before next snowboard season.
