Attractions to other Cultures and Revulsion towards other Cultures

Think about what cultures, other than your own are interesting or attractive to you. What about them is interesting or attractive to you?

Think about what cultures tend to inspire revulsion in you. What about them is revolting or repellent to you?

I think this is very interesting, on both accounts.

Seeking meaning is, however, incompatible with assuming you already know more than anyone you encounter.

Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Zelda?

The Übermensch who can't spell it. Cool.

Ja. Nicht sehg gut.

OJ Simpson gives me apprehensions about America.

Though I admit the "rapist's logic" is droll and nonsensical - it'd be the equivalent of someone saying that if young, handsome man stays out late at a bar and has too many drinks, then a horney gay guy should have a right to grope him and do him in the butt whether he consents or not.

Aside from that though, I see some problems here:

1. The rapist was sentenced to death, so I don't see how the rapists' silly attempt to defend his actions represents "india", any more than Ted Bundy claiming that "porn made him do it" represents "America". Heck, if he was in America he'd be on death row for 20 years or more going through appeal after appeal.

2. Rapists in America get defense lawyers too. So how does this authentically say anything about "India"? I just see it as an example of sensationalism.

You missed another discussion wherein I showed stats that illustrate that this isn't an isolated incident or an isolated set of beliefs and attitudes towards rape and women; that the incidents are regularly-occurring and that the attitudes are normalized and quite common (maybe even majority-held).

I wouldn't mind seeing them, but right off the bat the idea that "statistics" or flimsy studies conducted by outsiders attempting to describe a region of billions of people are very shaky.

That, and I also believe that if some imperialist power wanted to invent a pretext for war against another nation or culture, that "studies" of that nature could be very conveniently generated, and spread via the national media to garner support for the war effort, much like the Jewish blood libel and whatnot was among the Western Nazi imperialists.

As far as media is concerned though, I think it's totally arguable that there is a much stronger abundance of media promoting the themes described above produced by the US and Western nations, given the size of America's porn industry and trashy media which is more or less porn in everything but name, so that right there makes me think a case could be built that these attitudes toward women are potentially more common on the whole in the West than in most Indian or Islamic cultures.

I wasn't referring to "statistics" or flimsy studies conducted by outsiders.

Okay but I don't recall any examples of any imperialists arguing for the occupation or annexation of India based on (fake or real) rape stats.

India mostly consumes its own media so I don't know how much of an argument you've got there. In any even it'd be like saying that China is one of the world's biggest producers of opium therefore China is responsible for American opiate addictions.
