This is a different kind of rant.

There are Site Meters on my Weblogs. Since they are low traffic volume (I hate to admit), I get to play and find out what brought someone to the site. One of my top "hit makers" is when someone is using a search engine to find a pr0n site with a similar name.

OK, not stupid so far. But this is. Twice I have put something like, "This is not (whatzis name) erotic stories. They are not here, capice?" Remember, most people use the "preview" on a search engine, so they can see my disclaimer (I've backtracked to the "referring URL" and seen for myself what they read), so what do they do? Yep, they click there anyway!

Anyone else want to tell about things people do that are almost deliberately stupid?

They just can't resist you YCB. Its funny that you admit that people clicking onto your page are deliberately stupid though.

I can't tell you how many times I've been waffling between pr0n and intelligent blog articles, unable to decide which to spend time with. And voila here a web search for one has brought me the other - it's a sign!

I like intelligent articles that are also illustrated with, uh, the other stuff.

It would seem So. but Probably not...Dan

Maybe they're just curious to know what the blog *is* about. After all, with a name like that, if it's not porno, it's, what... Godzilla? Weight reduction? NP-complete problems? How could you not want to know?

My personal favorite is an anti-porn group www.xxxchurch.com (Safe for work) touted as "the number one Christian porn site". You have to wonder how many people stumbled on this site looking for porn, of course that may be part of their strategy.

When I used to work at a newspaper, we would get calls asking things like, "When is Fourth of July?" or "When is Thanksgiving?"

I had several students ask me if they really needed to buy the books for classes that I've taught.

Oh on that note, i've had people ask me "How long is our five minute break?" and while watching the Texas Chainsaw Massacre I was asked "Where was this suppossed to be taking place again?"

I've had someone say to me that Abraham Lincoln "founded Thanksgiving to free the slaves when he got elected in 1912."

The answer to your question is Yes, some people are born stupid.

Being a secular progressive, is definitely deliberately stupid.
Having voted for Obama, and now angry at him for how he is running things, is deliberately stupid.
White suburbanite kids dressed like black urban street thugs. Deliberately stupid.
Having three cars, four cell phones, 7 televisions, cable television, broadband internet, a kitchen cabinet full of junk food, a huge cd/dvd collection, but your wife has to work to "make ends meet" and you can't afford to send your kids to a decent private school. That is profoundly, deeply, deliberately stupid.
