First- sorry for starting two threads, both of them kind of personal in rapid succession. 


Me a few months to a year ago:

Followed super morbid meme pages that were basically like "Lol nooses and razor blades, lol I want to die"

Frequently listened to a subgenre of metal literally called "Depressive Suicidal Black Metal"(DSBM)

Forced myself to read authors like Dostoevsky and Nietzsche.

Puts on a depressed philosopher persona.

Cried myself to sleep often

Me right now(For the most part)

Follows meme pages about cute animals and whatnot.

Listens to classic rock and punk

Reads Scifi and comic books, loves them.

Much happier now.

Might help anyone who gets depressed, just sayin'.

Yeah, when you are in a bad place you should look for ways out.  Don't feed the bad. 

Depression can be a very serious thing that cannot be overcome with just positive thinking and rainbow unicorns.  But while sunshine and pop music may not help, they aren't going to hurt.  And while death metal and downer books and movies might not hurt, they aren't going to help.

And don't forget to ask for help.

For me, it would depend on who you were asking for help. If it's from your doctor, I personally would hesitate. Medical records aren't really private. And a depression diagnosis has implications in life.

I disagree. Medical records are private, but HIPAA exists for a reason.

I was diagnosed with clinical depression nearly 10 years ago. My employer knows. People get depressed.

The point is if you need help, ask for it. I did. And life is better.

Best thing that helped me was actually getting out and doing stuff. Take up a hobby!
