First, let me say, I don't really need any specific advice. So why post?
Well, I've never started a thread and I thought I'd try and start some kind of discussion.
So here goes:
What advice would you give to a twenty year old man (my age)? Or if you could back and meet yourself at that age, what advice would you give yourself?

2) Don't start a family accidentally.
3) Keep your expenses low, and don't get in debt, especially credit card debt.
4) Take the next couple of years and do some traveling, hike the AT, do those things that you always thought would be super cool - especially if they will take a couple of months to complete. You may be 65 before you get that opportunity again... depending on your career and family situation.
5) Educate yourself about your nation, its history, and its politics.
Permalink Reply by SteveSF on October 1, 2012 at 8:31pm You think you know it all now.. and look back on your 15 year old self and think 'what an idiot i was back then'
in 10 years... it's gonna be the same thing "ok i'm 30 I know where I am in the world.. How dumb was I when I was 20'
and so on for your whole life... Unless you become stagnant. so I guess my advice would be keep growing as a person and a man.

+ You are frugal, bordering on ascetic. I thank you for this.
+ Doing the grown up and responsible thing will at one point in life make you deeply unhappy. It will teach you that when the older generation call you "mature" and "wise", it usually means that you have done something you will regret.
+ When offered two alternatives, chose the one that sounds more fun. You do a much better job if you love what you are doing.
+ Loving someone can be so much better than your past experiences have taught you. I know you don't believe in monogamy, 20-year-old-me. I know from experience how much you give up when you chose one person (and one gender) for all eternity. It's a tough deal following someone else's rules. But when it works out, and you meet the right person, you'll realise that it can be worth every little sacrifice you make. After seven years, just thinking about the missus makes me smile.
+ Forget the whole cat-things. Dogs are great.
Permalink Reply by C. Armstrong on January 7, 2013 at 11:39am I'd say, learn from people you admire. Lots of people you don't will tell you all sorts of crap, but if you follow their advice, you'll just end up like them.
