I'm sure like many of you left to your own devises...I'm liable to gift wrap my junk and show up with a can of whip cream, so I hope collectively we can come up with a better plan this year.  My wife has tolerated my crude disgusting man habits for 19+ years and really deserves a romantic and special anniversary this time. Got any clever ideas that may or may not include a desert topping?

RE: also, i have to plug my town.  savannah is terriffic during spring and fall, and plenty romantic.

yeah, very nice place. Loved "river walk" an historic cotton trade district on the river front. We were really disappointed with Paula-dean's restaurant but enjoyed "old pink house", boar's head grill & tavern and river street seafood grill.

I'm partial to St Augustine "America's oldest town". lots of stuff: Spanish fort, light house, alligator farm etc.  Lots of great restaurants: Conch house, tasting room, Harry's. Stay away from the santa-maria...disgusting place, disgusting food.

Have you ever been to South Sea Pavillion Resort on Captiva? Beautiful place! I think Sanibel and Captiva are fantasric!

You can pack for her or not take anything at all.

You guys are thinking like men. She does not want to have your junk for dessert. Not even with whipping cream.  I recommend re-creating her wedding bouquet and attaching a note inviting her to buy something from the Blue Nile.  The Blue Nile is an on-line diamond store where you can choose the specific stone, setting, etc.  Very cool, very sexy to a woman--think Cabela's gun Library for the male analogy.  I did this for our 16th (we were married on leap day so every 4 years i have to go big) and i was repaid with interest!

Ooh...that's a good suggestion.  Romantic, special, long term meaningful.

Fantastic!

I took my wife to the Cayman Islands for a week in January.

Believe me, it's hard even for me to screw up that up.  We had a great time.

Anniversary update: Call it successful. After careful consideration, I decided against gift wrapping any of my appendages opting instead for a $1400 eternity ring and dinner at a fancy restaurant.  I got laid that night by candlelight over wine and cheese (her idea) and we broke out the whip cream (my idea).  She later exchanged the ring for a different one but fortunately for me, it was less expensive.  We should be good for maybe 5-10 more years...I think, by then our kids will be long gone.  Surely by then she'll weigh the merits of our marriage against a burning desire to release her inner cougar and prowl for young bucks?

Badknot, Studman!

Congratulations on 20 years of commitment. Keep up the maintenance work on your marriage and it will continue to pay off. It sounds like "the buck stops with you" so I don't think she will be prowling for a younger buck. One mature buck is worth way more than a 100 "bucks" in the bank.

I consider myself pretty lucky for hooking up w/ her.  If it weren't for her, I'd probably be in jail or dead by now.  She's has a contagious personality that people (including other men) always seem to gravitate to and the years have really been kind to her.  I got called out once on this forum but in a different thread by a certain well known individual whom shall remain anonymous as being "pussywhipped".  Probably some truth to that statement...obviously, I prefer the term "pussy whipcreamed".  By the way and just for laughs, I really did pull out the whip cream that night but forgot to pack the hand mirror for our stay at the Delray Beach Marriott.  I'd forgotten how messy that stuff was, we had to shower afterwards and the sheets kept sticking to me all night. lol

You are blessed! Also, be assured that with proper maintenance that whipped cream will come in "handy" for years to come. 42 years and counting for me and my bride. It only gets better if you are intentional and alert and most importantly selfless.

Congrats again!

DO NOT, REPEAT, DO NOT be like the doofus that showed up on either "Oprah" or "Dr. Phil".

(This was one of the wife's, "OMG!, you gotta see this unbelievable knucklehead!" TV reviews.)

The dimwit in question took his wife out for their anniversary dinner.  To Mickey D's.

And, I take it that he was not recreating their first date, or taking her to her absolute favorite restaurant, or something...

McD's wouldn't be my first choice...but I could make a logical argument that it is, at least, a valid choice.

Good bourbon on a budget

My friends and fellow gentleman, i find my supply of liquid levity growing disturbingly low. Can any of you recommend a good bourbon at a decent price? For reference, i would consider up to $50 a "decent price". I do like a good scotch now and then, but i really am more of a bourbon drinker, straight up. To get a feel for my tastes, i have found that i enjoy Dickel's Original and Wild Turkey (yes, the original lighter fluid). I'm curious about Jim Beam Devil's Cut, and i would like to know some…See More
